My vinyl records

I started buying vinyl records in 1986, when I landed my first job and could finally afford a record player. Back then, I was working at an Anglo-German-Swiss transport company, and English was part of the daily soundscape. Naturally, I gravitated toward music from the UK and Ireland, especially as I began visiting those places. Unlike German radio, which was largely hit-focused, I saw albums as storytelling mediums—atmospheric portals that went beyond the single. I bought records as they were released, thanks to Ulla, the brilliant soul at the record shop who always let me preview new arrivals. I kept this habit when I moved to France in 1988

Later, when I moved to Northern Ireland in 1994, I met the iconic Terri Hooley at his Good Vibrations record shop. His encyclopedic musical knowledge and firsthand stories were pivotal in shaping my deeper understanding of the music I loved. I didn't buy many vinyls after 1998 as CD became my default format but some records especially by bands with an analogue esthetics suit the format very well. Nowadays, Spotify is always happy to lend a hand.

Come back here regularly as I will be posting my little collection gradually.
